WP_LinkIt

WP_LinkIt is a free plugin for WordPress to automatically convert text from your posts and pages into links from a central list of links. This makes it easy to add value your site but maximizing links to other sites and keeping them consistent throughout your site. WP_LinkIt has been design to safely and correctly replace text in your pages and posts this means:

• <> Tags and [] are set aside before the replacing process, to ensure the integrity of the formatting.
• Replacing is done in reverse length order to ensure short matches such as ‘Apple’ will not interfere with longer matches such as ‘Apple Itunes’.
• Replacing is case insensitive, insuring a consistency of links throughout the blog.
• Text in existing links will be ignored to avoid nested links.

Installation

• Download the required plug-in.
• Unzip file if required.
• Copy to your ‘wp-content/plugins‘ directory.
• Log in with an administration account.
• Select the ‘Plugins‘ tab.
• Scroll down to ‘WP_LinkIt’ and click ‘activate‘.

Options

Log into WordPress with an Administrator login and select “Settings->LinkIt” on the dashboard menu.

• Timeout
  • Purpose: Sets me maximum time the plug-in will run before abandoning all changes and safely timing out.
• Include Categories
  • Purpose: A comma separated list of categories of links to include in the replace. An empty list will use all link regardless of category.
• Exclude Categories
  • Purpose: A comma separated list of categories of links not to replace. This takes priority over the include.
• Priority
  • Purpose: So set the priority of this filter in relation to other filters. 1 will run early, 10 will run late.
  • Why: If the plug-in runs early some plug-ins that insert works will not be checked for links. Running too late will cause plugins that filter links, not to filter inserted links.

To change the style of the WP_LinkIt links independently, you will find an independent style sheet in the ‘styles’ directory in the plug-ins directory.

Usage

To use WP_LinkIt add new items to your blogroll.

If you wish a link not to appear in your blogroll but still be WP_Linked , set the link to invisible.
